MARKET ASSESSMENT
|Market assessment
Will your item sell in Japan? We assess price, grade standards, season and competition, and design a way of selling that can win.
Sell to Japan
— your outsourced Japan desk.
You want to sell into Japan, but you have no base of your own here and no channel to buyers. On behalf of exporters and growers at origin, we become your hands and feet in Japan. Buyer matching, quarantine and regulatory feasibility, attending meetings and interpreting, quality and claim handling, settlement and documentation. Fourteen years of direct fresh produce importing, and direct negotiation in Spanish and English, stand behind your entry into Japan.
CHALLENGES
Japan is one of the most demanding fresh produce markets in the world. Grade standards, freshness, trust—every one of them is a high bar for a shipper coming in from abroad.
You have no base and no sales channel in Japan, and no idea where to start.
Japan's own regulatory requirements, from plant quarantine to food sanitation, are complex, and you cannot tell whether entry is even possible.
You cannot hold meetings or handle claims in Japanese, and cannot find a local partner.
You have no way to reach Japanese buyer networks: retail chains, wholesalers, foodservice.
SERVICE
We take on the entire market entry process in Japan for overseas shippers.
From reading the market to buyer introductions, quarantine and regulation, meetings, quality and settlement—we provide your Japan office function on an outsourced basis. Our focus is fresh produce. Shippers unable to maintain a presence of their own in Japan, whether a local subsidiary or a representative office, can start building a sales channel here without posting dedicated staff. We go beyond introductions and referrals: on some deals we buy on our own account. We also build the logistics route from origin to Japan, covering air and sea freight, forwarder selection and cold chain.
01
Will your item sell in Japan? We assess price, grade standards, season and competition, and design a way of selling that can win.
02
Plant quarantine, bilateral conditions and food sanitation (the positive list) decide whether your product can enter at all, and we settle that question first. We diagnose up front whether your item and country combination may be exported to Japan under plant quarantine rules, what treatment conditions apply (vapour heat treatment and the like), and how likely you are to meet Japan's residual pesticide standards under the positive list system.
03
Retail chains, wholesalers, intermediate wholesalers, foodservice—we connect you directly to the Japanese buyer network that overseas shippers almost never have.
04
Attending meetings and interpreting in Spanish and English, handling samples, and support for exhibiting at Foodex and other shows.
05
We act as your desk in Japan, handling claims against Japanese market quality standards on your behalf.
06
We support the settlement and documentation side of trade into Japan, covering L/Cs, Incoterms and shipping documents. Funds are transferred by financial institutions.
PLATFORM
Overseas shippers, and Japanese buyers. The more we are connected to both, the more value there is for each—a platform that connects, and makes things move.
OUTBOUND
We take on Japanese companies' import operations, from origin negotiation through settlement.
INBOUND
We support overseas shippers from buyer introductions through to day-to-day operations.
NETWORK
Twelve countries of origin, and Japan's buyer network. Brokerless direct trade.
BILINGUAL
In Spanish and English, with origins and with buyers alike, as equals.
It is strong precisely because it works both ways. Every shipper added creates value for buyers, and every buyer added creates value for shippers. We stand at that junction.
